Winners Once More!!!

Last night was the Pinewood Derby. I am the new Cubmaster so it was a big event for me. We invited the YM/YW to join us. It was a youth family activity. First we had a dinner and then the Cubs had their race. There were 6 cub scouts. After the cub race we had an open division race. There were 30 cars racing. It was crazy. We all had fun. As you can see Matt and Hyrum did quite well. Matt took 3rd place in the open division and Hyrum took lst place in the Cub Scout Pack division. Kim's car on the other hand had some problems. Oh, well, there's always next year. It was fun, but I'll be glad to get something done besides build cars. We've spent the last three days every night working on Pinewood Derby cars (we meaning, Matt, Kim and Hyrum). It is serious business around here. Congratulations, especially to Hyrum.

Getting Rid of the Yellow Toilet

Why did I entitle this post "Getting Rid of the Yellow Toilet"? For years everyone has been telling me that I just had to get rid of my mustard yellow toilet that is as old as the house. Who puts yellow toilets in houses? Well, after the toilet flood of the new year, we decided since we have to recarpet the back bedrooms it would be a good time to demolish our bathroom and remodel. Here is a picture of the yellow toilet and old vanity on the back porch awaiting the fate of the dump. YEA!! My new toilet is white. Plain old ordinary white. I can't wait. You can see whether a white toilet is perfectly clean or not. Pictures of the new bathroom as soon as there is a new bathroom. Right now we are a four bedroom, one bath family.

Wedding Bells

I know I'm a little late in posting this, but it has been a busy few months. Jenny and Tyler Weech got married Nov. 17th in the Mesa Temple. After the wedding we had an open house at Tyler's parents house in Gilbert. It was great fun. The slide show is just a few pictures from the open house. We haven't received the photographer's picture yet. A big thanks to cousin Tami for these shots. Then the newlyweds went on their honeymoon while the rest of use got ready for Thanksgiving. Two weeks later (after Thanksgiving) we had a reception in Yuma. I will post more pictures when I get them.

Our "Incredible" Halloween

Thanks to big sister, Nicki, Hyrum had an "Incredible" Halloween this year. Nicki found this fabulous Dash Incredible costume and sent it to Hyrum. The day after he got it we had to watch The Incredibles movie and he wore his costume while he watched. I'm sure in his mind he WAS Dash. He loved his costume and had a great time at Trunk or Treat.

Matt also got into the spirit of Halloween. He designed and cut out his Holocaust Cape and I sewed it for him. He was truly intimidating at 6'3" in a long black cape with a hood. His imitation of Fizik (sp?) in Princess Bride was pretty believable, too.

After Trunk or Treat we went to Grandma's to help her hand out candy. As you can see from the picture she is a pretty uptown witch. Who else would be a witch in a black lacy dress with a deep purple overdress. Only Grandma. Even as a witch on Halloween she is a classy dresser.

Matt the EAGLE

We are very proud to have three Eagle Scouts in our family, Kim, Tyler, and Matt. Wednesday, Oct. 3rd is Matt's eagle court of honor. We know there are a lot of you that would like to be there but can't. You'll be there in spirit. Matt has actually had his eagle paperwork for over a year, but we were waiting on another boy in the ward to finish so that they could have a joint court of honor. We decided a year was long enough to wait and that we would have Matt's separately. Matt truly does exemplify the values of scouting. Just this Sunday one of the widowed ladies in our ward asked Kim and I if Matt could help her move a friend because in her words, "If Matt is helping, I know it will get done." He has a reputation for being cheerful, helpful and capable. Matt is in his senior year and has already passed three AP exams. He loves to read and remembers everything he reads, even the smallest detail. He is continually amazing me with his profound insights. He is on the seminary council. We are so proud of you Matt!!!
